Apology for abuse scandal

Massgoers in Northern Ireland have heard apologies for the child abuse scandal in the Republic.
The Catholic Bishop of Down and Conor called it ''heart-breaking'', ''criminal and sinful''.
Reverent Noel Trainor told parishoners at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Carryduff, that there had been a ''lack of leadership to deal with the abusers''.
He also said that his diocese had put in place a ''robust Child Protection Policy'', adding that the parish was committed to ''fostering the safeguarding and protection of children and vulnerable adults''.The report published earlier this week found that thousands of children had been abused in catholic run institutions over sixty years.
